Reflective Narrative
4.1:
JAPN 404, Taught the proper way to develop a thesis for my capstone, as well as learn the necessary grammar and vocabulary that would eventually help me and my partner accurately convey our findings in Japanese. Together we gained a good understanding as to what kind of questions we needed and exactly how to word them in order to gain the data we needed while limiting as many variables as we could. It was an on going process but using Google's applications (Google Docs, Slides, Forms) aided in this project, as it was completed as a pair over a long period of time.
4.2:
In JAPN 403, we were taught how to do professional, academic research for our Capstone projects. I was able to use programs such as Zotero to collect and store academic sources. I later used this bank of sources to develop a bibliography for my Capstone project. With the new information and skills I gathered in this course, such as the use of the database Cinii, I was able to find a variety of articles and other resources based on my topic.
4.3:
As the semesters continued WLC 400 allowed me to continue using Google as a resource to finish my project. Programs, such as Google Forms, allowed my partner and I to created Japanese and English surveys that would later be sent to students in Japan and the United States. As our data accumulated we used Google sheets to create graphs and charts to present our research to our classmates throughout the semester. Finally, my partner and I used a combination of Google Docs and Microsoft Word to transfer the information from our presentations into research papers written in Japanese and English.
